Dating Amber

Set in 1995 rural Ireland near an army base, this coming-of-age film follows two closeted teenagers—Eddie (Fionn O'Shea), who is gay, and Amber (Lola Petticrew), who is lesbian—who start a fake heterosexual relationship to shield themselves from persistent homophobic abuse and societal expectations.

Semi-autobiographical and based on director David Freyne's own experiences, the film depicts a teenage "beard" arrangement that functions as a youthful lavender marriage. As their fake relationship deepens into genuine friendship, both must decide whether to continue living a lie or risk everything by being themselves. Also starring Sharon Horgan and Barry Ward.
